30-something: Myanmar Aid: Doctors Without Borders

I've been following the progress of Doctors Without Borders in Myanmar. They've got a team set up in the city of Yangon, and have been filing first-hand reports, like this one, and this one.

Watching

Prince Caspian
This one suffers from the common sequelitis: an over-reliance on special effects and a boring plot. Ben Barnes' talent (loved his little scenes in Stardust) is wasted here, while the older Pevensie children spend most of their screen time pouting. This movie also suspiciously resembles LOTR The Two Towers.

I am Legend
Andrew Lesnie, the cinematographer who brought you the three Lord of the Rings movies shot this film. Other than that, I really can't think of a good reason to watch this.

Capote (2005)
Don't let its languid pace fool you. This movie packs a whole lot of punch, from its beautiful cinematography, its superb cast, and a script written by an actor for actors---which means lots of pregnant pauses and facial expressions that convey so much.

Iron Man
meh. I can't stand superheroes who are so full of themselves. Also, one of Pepper Potts' handbags is causing a mini-frenzy among the fashionistas. Personally, I think it's better-looking than the iron suit.
If you don't make it to the theatre, watch the trailer cos' most of the best scenes (and those that didn't make it into the movie) are in it.

Nim's Island
When brilliant actors make horrible horrible choices.

American Gangster (DVD)
This is Ridley Scott's best film to date. Not only beautiful to look at, the film's story and characters are more riveting than the action sequences, which is something not many dramatic movies, if any, seem to be capable of these days.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets
It was a cheap ticket and I was bored. In the end, I was just very disappointed.

Atonement (DVD)
See my review. Joe Wright, in the DVD commentary, jokingly pronounced the title "At-one-ment".

Tim Hortons Brier 2008
Been watching the games on TSN and online at TSN.ca. Teams Ontario and Alberta are smoking the competition right now. Prediction: Ontario. My Faves: Teams Ontario, NF/Lab, and Quebec.
